An update….

…sweetous tells me that Virginia will likely be coming back again. Apparently she and her Mother are not getting along at all. She has been hospitalized a couple times too. I am fairly certain that the environment here would be better for her than with Tony et al in California. I think we will need some outside help though, this kid has some serious problems to work on. So, I guess we will change my computer room into a girl’s bedroom and move the computers to the master bedroom or to the parlour with the fitness equipment. Maybe we need a bigger house. Oh well, my Pastor has said in sermons and in conversation that it is best that computers be out in the open rather than behind closed doors – which I am inclined to agree with that assessment…..

Some random notes…..

….slept in today and went to work later than usual, so I shall be here late too ’cause I want to get at least the task I working on now completed. Tuesday I went to the healing service at Life in Jesus. That was pretty intense and I didn’t get home ’til 11:00 pm. Then on Wed evening, we went to our bible study group. So for two consecutive days – I went to bed too late….

….for the past month I have been observing my financial life with growing alarm and a sense of awful dread. Yesterday, I found out that the PLUS loans have been consolidated and I must start paying. So today, I made some inquiries into restructuring some of my debt. We shall see how that goes….

LB graduates from DelVal this Saturday. We will drive up to my Brother’s place tomorrow and then on Saturday, we will all goto the graduation. My parents are going too, very good. We will also be having dinner with Steve’s parents. I am looking forward to the weekend, but the big drawback is — more expense !!

I am here at work, I was feeling very congested so I popped an OTC asthma pill. Now I am very very wired….

back to the spreadsheet….

Random notes….

I am tired, but that is a good thing. I went on a 4 mile walk this afternoon after I dropped Sweetous off at the house she is watching. I walked on the Rock Creek Trail from Needwood to Norbeck and back again. I am tired, my feet are glad to be out of their shoes. I shall make sure I walk more often because I don’t get enough exercise. Maby I can get Sweetous to go with me, or even all 4 of us.

That was today, what about Friday & Saturday ? Friday was too long ago, don’t remember right off hand. Yesterday Davey and I took a load of junk to the dump. In the afternoon I went to Borders for a while.

Tomorrow, back to work !

Busy day at work with lots of interruptions and distractions….

I did finish the tape I was working on though. I printed some stuff for Dogette after I got her to fill in the blanks she had left open. I gotta look out for my Dogette. After work I went to Borders for a while. I browsed the books and had some tea.  There was a girl ’bout 18-20 in the cafe in a very short flippy skirt. She kept tugging at her skirt trying keep everything covered. It’s a hoot, why do they wear stuff like that ?

Lurking and prowling….

I took today off from work ’cause the furnace technician was coming to my house to do the annual maintenance. After the furnace was duly inspected and certified as being in excellent condition, I decided to spend the remainder of the day lurking & prowling.

I had Piglette (my daughter) drive me to a local shopping center where I got a bus to Shady Grove. From there I took the Metro to Union Station in DC.

I enjoy walking around and watching people and seeing the various stores. I also like to watch and ride trains. There were quite a lot of fine looking women out and about; I duly noted their presence, discreetly observing them as I strolled around the area.

I noticed many “NO LOITERING” signs posted in various locations throught the station. I was observed by several police officers while making my rounds, but they allowed me to pass by unmolested because I was not loitering — I was lurking & prowling.

There is a qualitative difference between loitering and lurking & prowling. The difference being that one who lurks & prowls does not attract the attention of the police; the one who is loitering will always stand out and be noticed by the aforementioned security services.

There is a third activity which is sometimes confued with both loitering and with lurking & prowling. This last alternative is stalking. Stalking differs from both of the others in that it involves a 1 to 1 ratio of stalker and prey, while the other two involve a single person observing an indeterminate number of others. Stalking has a harmful intent, but neither loitering nor lurking & prowling involves any evil intent. Stalking may continue for a long time and cover a large area; the time and area scope of the loiterer and the one who lurks & prowls is limited to a discrete time and location. I lurk & prowl I do not stalk.

After my time alotted for lurking & prowling had expired, I returned via the MARC train to Rockville, the Metro to Shady Grove, and the bus to Milestone. Sweetous (my wife) had left a car there for me. I browsed around briefly in Borders and then drove home.

I am pleasantly tired from my day of lurking & prowling, which is a good thing. I had a good day and soon I shall go to bed and sleep.

a rant about the lottery…

Many people think of gambling as a sin or vice.  Although I can sympathize with this viewpoint; I don’t think that the occasional wager is a mortal sin or a serious disruption in a person’s life.  Occasional gambling is not a problem, but some people become addicted to it which is  a very serious problem.

I have indulged in the vice of gambling from time to time, but it is not really my thing.  For the most part I think of it as a waste of time and money.  I used to play cards when I was a kid, but loosing most of my paycheck once in the Army cured that real fast.  I think if I tried to play cards now, I would get bored. I have played poker machines at Vegas which I enoyed, but that was quite long time ago.  I have even purchased the occasional lottery ticket when my wife talked me into it.

The State Lottery is one of my pet peeves.  State lotteries prey on the poor because the poor are their biggest customers. The lottery raises false hopes and is an underhanded way to tax the poor ! Lotteries encourage greed and sloth in society in general.  The states claim that the lottery proceeds are put to  good use — but I am skeptical of that. I have no idea of how much overhead and expenses there is to run a lottery, but I am certain that it is substantial. I am also certain that much of this overhead is being lapped up by greedy contractors feeding at the public trough !

All of the above are good reasons to oppose State Lotteries, and I agree with them all wholeheartedly.  I would like to see the lotteries abolished, but the real reason I hate the lottery is that — I hate standing in line at the convenience store to buy a coke ! Buying a coke is a quick in & out transaction —  if there is not a line of people buying lottery tickets ! Buying lottery tickets is a time consuming transaction, most people buy more than one.  Woe to the person who wants to buy a slurpee on Super Jackpot Power Balls day !
