BASIC on the Web…

Back in the day (80’s & 90’s) every computer came with the BASIC programming language. Nothing like what we have today but I had fun with it. I just found this on the web so anyone with a nostalgia for BASIC can play with it again.  So if you can’t waste enough time surfing the web or checking Facebook, here is something else…

Secrets of the Naturally Slim….

Here are some sensible and practical ideas to help keep the pounds down. Being aware of what you eat, being active, and sleep are just some of the ideas presented. The article was written for women but it seems to me it would work just as well for men….

Turns out, research shows that skinny people simply don’t think about food the same way as–well, the rest of us. “Thin people have a relaxed relationship with food,” explains David L. Katz, MD, an associate professor adjunct in public health at Yale University. “Those who are overweight, however, tend to be preoccupied by it. They focus on how much or how often they eat, or attach labels like good and bad to certain foods. As a result, mealtime is always on the brain.”

My Jihad

MyJihad is a public education campaign that seeks to share the proper meaning of Jihad as believed and practiced by the majority of Muslims. Jihad is a central tenet of the Islamic creed which means “struggling in the way of God“. The way of God, being goodness, justice, passion, compassion, etc (not forcible conversion as wrongly claimed by some).

The Culture That Gave Birth to the Personal Computer

The idea of a personal computer, one that ordinary individuals could own and operate and keep in their homes, was envisioned in 1945 by Vannevar Bush. After building his Differential Analyzer at MIT and helping to create the military-industrial-academic triangle, he wrote an essay for the July 1945 issue of the Atlantic titled “As We May Think.” In it he conjured up the possibility of a personal machine, which he dubbed a memex, that would not only do mathematical tasks but also store and retrieve a person’s words, pictures and other information.

Taking Up Serpents

I’m visiting my daughter and parents for Christmas. I’m at my daughter’s house now and just finished watching a youTube video about snake handling churches. (I know it’s an odd thing to do on Christmas Eve, but anyway)  It’s pretty amazing to see. I know people can do a lot of things through faith or intense mental concentration but it is still pretty astonishing. What really gets my attention though is the snakes. Why do these snakes not bite these people ? Sure it happens but usually it doesn’t. Makes me wonder, what’s up with these snakes ?

Why an Incarnation ?

For Christians, the incarnation of some aspect of God’s divinity in the person of Jesus of Nazareth has always been of utmost importance. The implications of this incarnation affect nearly every other aspect of Christian doctrine, not least the meaning of Jesus’ death on the cross

http://hermetic.com/

The Hermetic Library was created in 1996, in the early days of the commercial Internet, and is one of the most comprehensive and popular resources on the Internet for the kind of information in its collection. Hermetic.com is justifiably famous, and perhaps a little infamous, as the source for an amazing collection of information useful to every researcher and student of esoteric studies and the modern Western tradition. Many students over the last decade found their start and much information useful to them by perusing the materials of The Hermetic Library and started their own electronic libraries by downloading pages and pages of content for their use and research.
